Being addicted to drugs is a very big problem to society. Drug addiction is a complex disorder that is compulsive in nature. Men, women, and even teenagers today may become addicted to drugs. Unfortunately, a growing number of teenagers according to a recent survey had been addicted to drugs. Compulsion to the substance because of the great feeling it brings make it impossible to stop. Blame it to media, the Internet, peer pressure, or the family but drugs is impossible to stop. Information of drugs is fast just like the illicit product circulating is unbeatable. But why does a person become a drug addict?
First, the addict uses drug out of curiosity. He, or She, tries the drug because his/her friend is using the substance. He first becomes a drug user. A drug user is different from a drug addict. He or she tries the drug and likes it. He tries it for the over whelming, overpowering, arousing feeling it brings overlooking the bad effects of it. First, he/she uses it to resolve his problem, thinking that drug could help him solve his/her problem. Then later that it becomes a problem itself because he becomes addicted to it already. The drug user then becomes a drug addict.
Addiction is being hooked to or accustomed to what you are doing. Addiction is compulsion, repetitive. It is also a long-term use of the substance. Drug Addiction is very dangerous to yourself, but not just to yourself but to everyone around you. It is so hard to stop once you are already into it, when your body craves for it. This is why Rehabilitation is so important. Rehabilitation is best for those (the addict and/or the family) who are willing to avoid drug addiction for the rest of their life. It is hard to undergo rehabilitation. You have to undergo many obstacles to be alcohol-free—to be sober.
Rehabilitation may be in-patient rehab or out-patient. In-patient rehabs, which are mostly popularized in movies, are quite expensive. But this type of rehab requires competitive staffs to help a patient become better. Fighting against drugs in rehab is like fighting a disease. Competent physicians and nurses are needed to ensure the patients are safe. When a patient in “sober houses” becomes free of drugs, he may have a choice to continue treatment at home. Out-patient treatments have many choices, such as treatment with local support groups, where in group of drug-free individuals meet to discuss about drugs and how they are after being sober from drugs. The client might also meet with a therapist once he had been sent out of the rehabilitation treatment.
Under rehabilitation is so hard to accomplish. Being drug-free is difficult dilemma for someone who had been long addicted. Relapse may be one, for sure. Relapse, resuming drugs, after having been treated is not new to rehabilitation. Going through the process over and over is common to most drug addicts. With the help and encouragement of friends and family, it is still the individual’s choice to choose to be drug-free.
